ANW11 – Atlanta Qualifying June 5th

American Ninja Warrior - Season 9Hey friends! The time has come!! I’m continually amazed at where this adventure has led, and this Wednesday, June 5th, you can see me compete in my 6th season on an all-new #AmericanNinjaWarrior at 8/7c on NBC.

We filmed this episode in Atlanta back in April and have had to keep our mouths shut about the results until it airs. You can browse some of the photos from that night here:

Ninja Warrior 11 – Atlanta Photos

Filming in Atlanta has completed, and as always, it was an amazing time. I always come away wishing I had gotten more photos, but here are a handful of some behind the scenes.

The season begins May 29 on NBC! Typically, the first region aired is Los Angeles, and then the next week should be Atlanta. I’ll share more info here when the date is known.

Seeking Something More

Heaven knows terrible things happen to people in this world.  The good die young, and the wicked prosper, and in any one town, anywhere, there is grief enough to freeze the blood.

But from deep within whatever the hidden spring is that life wells up from, there wells up into our lives, even at their darkest and maybe especially then, a power to heal, to breathe new life into us.

And in this regard, I think, every man is a mystic because every man at one time or another experiences in the thick of his joy or his pain the power out of the depths of his life to bless him.

I do not believe that it matters greatly what name you call this power – the spirit of God is only one of its names – but what I think does matter, vastly, is that we open ourselves to receive it; that we address it and let ourselves be addressed by it; that we move in the direction that it seeks to move us, the direction of fuller communion with itself and with one another.

Howard Thurman

VOTE!

Vote

Be an informed and educated voter.

  1. Ignore anything where someone or a group of people are attacking a candidate. These groups are paid millions of dollars to make a candidate look as bad as possible. They turn words and phrases around, taking things out of context, never telling the full story. They are playing us all, and many of us just blindly allow it. Don’t pay attention to it. Ignore them all.
  2. Instead, go to the candidate’s websites and read about their positions and watch their videos, but do it objectively and fairly. Get it straight from the source, not some third or fourth party who will paint it with as ugly a color as they can. Educate yourself on both sides, then make your own, informed decision.
  3. Then VOTE, and celebrate the freedom you have to live in a country where you are allowed to participate in deciding who our leaders will be.

Peace!
Bootie

Miami City Finals are Monday Night!

The time is here! THIS Monday night, July 30th, you’ll be able to watch to top 30 competitors from the southeast region compete for 15 spots to advance to the national finals. The action starts at 8/7c on NBC!

If you missed my Miami Qualifying run, you can catch it HERE on YouTube (run-only) and HERE on NBC (includes the full profile they did before my run, and the post-run interview with Kristine). And if you want to know what it was like inside my head at the time, you can even do that HERE.

This was my second year in a row making it to a City Finals round. Last year in Daytona, I fell on the Rolling Thunder but made it just far enough fast enough to advance with the top 30. Late into that qualifying round I was unsure if I was going to make it in. This year I was able to leave no doubt by finally getting past the 5th obstacle and up the wall to hit my first buzzer!

Thanks for all of your support!!

(also, American Ninja Warrior just released my season 10 submission video below)

ANW10 – Miami: Wrapup and Photos

It is becoming more and more apparent to me that, if you believe in yourself, use positive thinking, and work hard, you can bring whatever change or growth you want to your life.

5 years ago I discovered this crazy obstacle course show called American Ninja Warrior at the ripe old age of 44. When I applied that year, I dreamed of just getting a shot at running the course and trying to prove something with an aging body. I could not imagine I would be where I am today, embraced by an incredible ninja community and now competing in my 5th season, feeling stronger and more confident than ever.

Well, we recently wrapped up filming for season 10 of the southeast region in Miami, which is where it all started for me back in season 5. As always, it was an awesome experience. The show will air sometime in June (I’ll share more info as it approaches, so be sure to follow me here for the updates). But for now, here is a short wrap-up and a small glimpse into the family and the experience that is American Ninja Warrior:

The day before the comp many ninjas are called to arrive in waves at a site where we film interviews, b-roll and “hero” shots. This is often a half-day affair with a lot of sitting around and waiting, so you get to meet a lot of new ninjas and catch up with old friends.

05 Hero shots

Green screen time!

03 Nic

This is Nic Steinhaus! He’s a rookie on the course and also has a bunch of titanium parts inside his body and a good comeback story.

04 natalie

This is Natalie Duran, a popular name on the show. When I was walking up to the hotel for interview day, she came rolling up on a Harley Davidson looking like the badass she is.

08 Moose

This is Morgan Wright (Moose) and he and I are representing with the older ninjas in Miami.  He’s an elementary school teacher and an overall awesome and fun guy. Like me, he’s a veteran who comes into season 10 having never hit a button.

09 Twins

Dougie-Fresh and Kelley and family! They’re are expecting twins, who are already on the #BootieBandwagon! Dougie and I first met in Orlando in season 7 and were shown back-to-back in the Qualifying episode.

10 Matt Barclay

This is Matt Barclay. We met at a local ninja comp in Atlanta a couple years ago as he was in the process of getting involved in the ninja world, having worked really hard at getting healthy and into shape for applying to the show. I love these kinds of stories, seeing people challenging and believing in themselves, working hard and being empowered by the results.

11 Bree

This is Bree!! We met and ran together last year in Daytona, and yeah, she’s scary strong!!

12 Beards

Ryan and Brett are longtime friends, former roommates, and have been on the show since it began 10 years ago. Their beards are almost as legendary as their skills, and yeah, they’re on the #BootieBandwagon, too.

13 run number

On the day of the competition, we show up for check-in where we find out what number we are running. That’s region 3, runner number 28.

14 Mike Cook

Mike Cook operates Ultimate Backyard Warrior (UBW) in Rocky Mount, NC, and hosts 2 major ninja events each year that bring in ninjas from all over the country.

16 Joel

This is Joel, a former F15 fighter pilot who has battled against cancer and is out here taking on his next challenge.

17 before rules

Once all the ninjas have checked in, we gather at the start of the course to go over the rules for each obstacle, watch a single demonstration and ask any questions. We do not get to practice or touch the obstacles before our run.

18 Glenn

This is Glenn Davis, one of the owners of NinjaQuest in Marietta, GA. He’s a former gymnast and a creative and talented obstacle builder. He spent the past 2 seasons testing the courses in Daytona and now Miami. (Testers are used so producers can be sure the obstacles are not too hard but also not too easy!)

19 Reko

This is Reko Rivera, a DJ, entertainer and fire-blower who I first met in season 5. We’ve competed together at every ANW event I’ve been a part of, as well as some local competitions.

20 Jess

This is Jessica Clayton. We first met at a local competition in Atlanta a few years ago. She works at NinjaQuest Fitness in Atlanta and is a beast on any course.

21 Colleen

This is Colleen McCormack. We’ve been together at a lot of ANW and local competitions, but perhaps our most fun memory was from season 8 in Atlanta when we shared the best Uber ride ever with Justin Mania to Slingshot Entertainment the night before filming.

22 Chuckster

Chuck Mammay, “The Chuckster”, competed in seasons 8 and 9 at over 70 years old. He’s well-known and loved!

23 Brickhouse

Brick!! This is Steven Brickhouse, who was featured in season 8. I see you, Brick!

24 Nic pre start

Here’s Nic Steinhaus again waiting his turn to step up to the platform on qualifying night. This is the moment everything comes down to, and it’s intense!!

25 Kevon

I met Kevon White at B-roll and interview filming. This was his first year competing. He played football in college and was here looking for a new challenge. Great meeting you, Kevon!

26 resting after qualifying

This was me trying to get some rest after my qualifying run.

27 After breakfast

The morning after the qualifying night, headed back to my hotel after breakfast (the show is filmed all overnight to get the production value of having the dark backdrop and lights).

29 Filming a promo after lunch

After the break for lunch, here are Matt, Akbar, JJ Woods and Barclay Stockett filming a promo for Ninja vs Ninja, which airs on USA Network on Mondays at 11pm. Check it out!!

30 kip at MIA

This is Kip, and he was one of the testers for the course. He got to play on pretty much the entire course as they were setting it up and making adjustments, and crushed nearly everything he touched! We ended up on the same flight out on Sunday afternoon. Great hanging with you, brother!

31 Joel at airport

Here’s Joel again in the airport. He shared the same flight out with me and Kip.

This is part of the crew that came to support me in Miami. I am so grateful for their support! Mom, dad, Jodi, Donovan, Nia and Logan, John and Meghan and Eric and Charlie!

Those are just a small group of photos from a much larger family. Stay tuned, more to come! The new season begins May 30th on NBC at 8/7c, so don’t miss it!!

Peace,
Bootie

“Mercy Now” audio available

Mercy Now Artwork smI believe we each have the power to affect and change our Universe through our actions, no matter how small. Even the smallest acts can often grow to have larger impacts. Such is the case with things like mercy. We each need and deserve some degree of mercy from others, and we also each have the power to create and give mercy to others. Think about what it feels like for you to receive mercy, and then consider helping to make your small corner of the world a little better by sharing some mercy of your own where you can. It can be as simple as initiating an apology or the letting go of a grudge. It can be given to someone in a grocery store line, a fellow driver on the road, someone in your community or almost any situation of conflict or need. Not only will it positively impact someone else’s life, watch what it does for you and your Universe.

I was introduced to this song a few years ago and was struck by its simple message and plea for mercy in our broken lives and world. Originally written and recorded by Mary Gauthier, I have performed it a few times in various settings, and it has always been well-received, so I cranked up the studio and spent some time making a good recording.

I’m happy to announce that “Mercy Now” is now available at the links below, and may also be found on streaming outlets like Spotify, Rhapsody and Deezer, etc…
